Re: Automatic, but no overdrive! 200 1992

Tom/Dave

I'm having the same problem. Doesn't want to shift into 4th until tranny is warm. Once warm and working in 4th (OD), if I press the button, I can hear the relay clicking and the solenoid "does it's thing" and downshifts ito 3rd just like it's supposed to. So, if the problem still persists, yet the relay clicks, does this mean that the relay has a dual function? Namely to allow the downshift as well as allowing the trans to shift into 4th? I looked at he Haynes schematic but couldn't figure out if there is a dual function. What is obvious is that pressing the shifter button closes a circuit, activates the solenoid in the relay, which closes a circuit in the relay, which allows electrical flow out to the OD solenoid (which in turn activates it's solenoid and does it's thing too). So, could the relay then have this second function that "times" the upshift into fourth? Please help. Thanks much

George
