When the outside temperature goes over 85 I am limited to 3000 RPM. In cooler weather, the thing runs fine all the way to 6000 RPM if needed. I posted this problem in April hoping for a cure before hot weather, but alas... I guess I would never notice this in Sweden!
The car is a non-turbo, automatic with 200,000 miles and started having this problem late last summer. The car runs fine until the outside air temperature gets to about 85. Then every time I hit 3000 RPM the engine cuts out like someone turned off a switch. I can usually restore power by just backing completely off the throttle. Most of the time it will instantly recover and I can immediately take it back up to 2500 or so RPM. Once in a while, I have to turn the car off and re-start it. After the re-start I am in the same situation.
This problem has also occurred occasionally when the outside temp is above 70 and I stop the engine for a few minutes and re-start (like a short stop at the gas pump.) Then it cuts out for a few minutes but recovers to normal operation quickly as the under hood temperature goes down.
So far I have been told to check the fuel pump and the relay. I have checked both fuel pumps (audibly) and replaced the fuel pump relay twice.
Where else can I look.
