differential "clunk" located 1800 64

I have the differential and although I hav'nt removed the carrier I noticed that the hole in the spacer block where the pinion shaft goes through is big enough to wiggle the shaft an easy 1/8". When I do this I hear a cluck that sound like the one that has been worring me the last few months. This hole should not be this big correct?
