Hey, y'all -- I wonder if anyone has an answer to this problem:
I recently bought a 1989 Volvo 740 GLE station wagon with a 2.3 litre, 16-valve fuel-injected engine. The car appeared to be in fantastic shape when I bought it, and still is, for the most part. The problem is, for the first month or so it ran just fine, but now the engine has begun flooding with gasoline on a very frequent basis. It seems to happen anytime I drive the car for a while, turn it off, then try to start it again before anything less than 15 minutes or so have passed.
I looked through the owner's manual, and while it didn't specifically mention engine flooding, it had a section devoted to "Starting and Driving". It advised things like not stepping on the gas pedal when you start the car, and not making repeated short attempts to start it,'cause fuel gets injected every time you turn the key. It also mentioned something about letting the car get to full operating temperature.
I've followed all the instructions, and this problem continues to happen, whether the engine has reached full operating temperature or not. Any ideas what might be wrong and/or how I (or a mechanic) can fix it?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
