I was only going to remove my failed bulb warning light. Then I decided to explore my broken trip odometer. The bulb shattered in the socket and I came up empty on the trip odometer. I reconnected all the cables and put the bulb holder in the socket with the broken bulb (at least it's off I thought) I started the car (after reconnecting my neg battery cable!!) and the speedo needle started dancing, The car started but the tach needle did not move. I double checked my connections and the same thing happened. I headed out any way. The odometer was now not working and the speedo needle was twitchy. After about 20 mins there was that nasty electrical smell and the car died. It would turn over but not start. I pulled the connector out of the Instrument Cluster that provides the lights (the round one with the male/female pins. I tried to start the car; nothing. I then pulled the small connector that goes to the back of the speedo (It looks like the letter E with a few wires) and tried to start the car; and it started. It ran okay with the service engine light, battery light and the overdrive light (arrow up) lit. The rest of the car was dim but it ran.
So my questions are: What the hell did I do? How can I fix it?
If anyone needs more info, please, pleASE, PLEASE contact me.
