cold startup problems 200 1984

Any suggestions:

Since last week, my 84 240 (B23) has been running bad when ice cold (in the am). It seems to be running to rich (smoking). After about 5 minutes of struggling to keep running, it suddenly runs fine. Startups a few hours later (not ice cold) are ok.

New plugs, wires, cap, rotor and coolant temp. sensor - no change.

I read somewhere that if you disconnect the MAS and the car runs better - the MAS is bad. Is that correct? It seems to be the case with my car.

Its difficult to figure out since its intermittent - you only have 3 - 5 minutes to work on it before the problem goes away.

Any input is appreciated.
