CIS control valve testing 200 82

So, I checked over the wiring, looked for vacuum leaks, and I'm coming to the conclusion that my control valve has headed south for the winter. It checks out OK electrically, but is there some way to be certain that it is dead before I trot off the the U-Pull It to snag another one? Does the cylinder inside it move back and forth with shaking, electrical charge or some other inducement? I tried rapping on it with a screwdriver while the engine was running (like a bat outta you know where) but the idle still won't settle down. Any experience with these critters? Thanks

Matt
