Did you remove the fuse and replace it with a new one, or just look at it?

Both of my 240s have had the same trouble - no brake lights at all. In both cases, it was the fuse. The fuse looked OK, but the ends of the fuse had corroded and the metal conductor split. It wasn't obvious until I pulled the fuse, and one of the metal ends fell off.

My Dad said he had the same problem in his '64 122. I really don't understand why Volvo kept using those "ceramic" (really plastic) fuses until '93, when better alternatives were available well before that.
