The test I did was with the wire to the points disconnected. I tested with a volvmeter and got 12v to the switch from the battery, and then the same out of the switch From the unshielded output with the key on. With the key on, however I got no voltage from the primary lead off the engine compartment end of the coil. I'll try your test
