I beleive the 940 and 740 switches are interchangeable, although later 940 switches had little illuminated window icons on them, and I don't think these will light up on an older car (not positive though!).

The driver's side and other switches are NOT interchangeable. I have first hand experience with Dealer selling me wrong switch (sold me driver's switch for passenger side application). They fell back on their "No returns on electrical items" policy, and I had to buy another switch. Upside is that I replaced the driver's side switch before it failed and created additional aggravation.
