Have you done a timing belt lately?

One guy I know had his done by a second-rate mechanic who who aligned the cam sproket wrong, put the thing back together, retrded the timing so much the vehicle ran poorly for weeks until the owner finally opened the thing up and realized the mechanic hadn't bothered to ensure the No. 1 piston had to be tdc to line up with the woodruf key yaddity yaddity.

Other rare occurrances are the belt is so loose and worn it can "jump" a sprocket, causing all kinds of weird and wonderful things...
