If there is a stop other than a cruise control switch to limit upwards travel of the clutch pedal, it should have a return spring. It would run from the hole in the end of the fork to a hole in the metal trans mount plate. Sometime in the early 80's Volvo got the bright idea to remove the stop and the spring and have the bearing in contact all the time. Stupid, I would say. If the noise is just a chirping that goes away when you put some pressure on the pedal, you can live with it for awhile. If it gets worse when loaded, change it before you chew up the fork or something more expensive. You will probably find its about time for the rest of the clutch, as the bearings usually last as long as the disc.
