No, I seems that we didn't get 5-speed 940's either. By the way, some 940's were actually made in Canada, at the Halifax assembly plant, seeming to me using more North American and Japanese parts than the imported ones.
We have a fair number of 4sp with overdrive 740's about, including Turbo wagons up to 1992 or so. Maybe you could try for one of them! In wagon versions the differences approach nil - I think that the final 740's picked up some of the 940 improvements.
Just watch for rust if you are looking over any Canadian car that old. Not-so-obvious places to look on 740/940's include wheel well opening lips, front sub-frame channels, and front inner fenders from under the hood.
I agree, the 945 may be the best car ever. I am not so sure I would want the standard transmission, though, as it just seemed like extra work in the na 745 I drove. Maybe the extra power of the turbo and the fact that the turbos use non-locking automatics for some reason would sway me, though.
