I used to have my bulb warning light come on when no bulb was out. A friend of mine who worked a Volvo parts desk told me to only use Volvo OEM bulbs. Sure enough, I replaced a sidemarker bulb from Napa with a Volvo one and it's been fine ever since. Since the indicator system works on resistance, I think that there might be variations in the resistance of the bulbs when comparing OEM to aftermarket.
