Discount tire direct has a comparison of snow tires on their web site. I have used Perelli, Michelin and I now have some Blizzaks on my '96 965. I kept 2 "usable" Blizzaks that came with the car and put 2 new on for last winter (195/65-15). They were good in the snow but real squishy on dry pavement. The original Michelin XM+S Alpins I had, had a much more agressive block tread than the present "Artic" Alpin and was better in real snow. Every Perelli I've had went out of round before the tread gave out. I'm presently thinking of getting a set of the Michelin Pilot Alpins and "give" away the Blizzaks.
For real snow stick with a narrower profile. The narrow tire will bite through the snow better. Maybe a 185/70-15?
