Hope you're well and stay so. I just received - as a gift - an AW71-L transmission with only 130K miles!!! This sedan belonged to a neighbor, who died a couple of years ago.

A friend bought this '95 940 sedan and had it converted to turbocharged from normally-aspirated. He found a master tech, who swapped-in a donor car's engine and tranny, which coincidentaly also had about 130K miles.

He had no use for the tranny: turbo-charged cars' trannies do not have the lock-up torque converter, present on almost all trannies factory-installed in normally-aspirated cars.

I want to flush this tranny before "mothballing". To do that, I need to turn the output shaft, to expel the old fluid. An electic drill - with a rubber sanding pad backer - should allow the drill to turn the shaft.

I've reviewed the pocket data booklet - Cars (700,900 S/V90 (1991-98). I find no statement as to the engine/tranny rotational direction. When facing the engine, does the crankshaft turn clockwise or counter-clockwise? .

With this insight, I can cap one of the two transmission fluid pipe nipples, attach a drain hose to the other nipple, and slowly flush the tranny. I'll use Wal-Mart ATF, as that should suffice for long-term storage.
