144 speedo cable 140-160 1967

Eric, Thanks for the prompt response.

The car is a 1967 144S that came with a BW35 automatic trans.... yuck ! I have installed a M40 4 speed from a '68 or '69 142 that i chopped up some years ago.

Yes, the internal cable within the sheath seems to be long. So the threads of the cable don't reach the M40 speedo housing.
Can I trim the automatic cable or just purchase a new 670506?
