I followed the guide provided here -- https://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/relays/relays.html -- to create my own wiring/relay set up. My 82 has four 4"x6" headlights -- one low/high beam and one dedicated high beam on each side. I used 4 relays -- one on each side for the low beams, and one on each side for the high beams. I used 10 gauge wire and the shortest runs I could come up with. So now, the only current the OEM circuits carry is that to energize the relays (minimal). I have 0.00V loss between alternator output and filament -- full 14.3-14.6V at the headlights. I was getting about 11.5V-12V before. Check out the table in the article - lumens vs. voltage -- this makes a big difference even if you don't upgrade the bulbs.
