This is a sort of "puzzlah" for our entertainment.
The 1993 244's current owner drives it daily for the past 4 years for about 50K of its 250K mile history. Complaint: Wipers quit but can hear clicking as if they are still running. Using Rain-x instead. Next sunny day, clicking persists even with the wipers shut off. A week later, no more clicking, turned on or off.
My first look, the wiper arms are independently free to rotate (shafts and all) and the wiper motor seems very warm to the touch (can't endure contact for more than a few seconds.) A spare wiper motor assembly plugged in (and grounded) operates normally through all positions of the stalk.
The challenge is to imagine the root cause and repair needed before actually tearing into the works behind the dash. Guesses? Questions?
The answers are on the agenda for this weekend.
