I don't have any experience using Super 33+ on diaphragms but I have to echo you on this. Once you start buying $5 rolls of electrical tape there's no going back. The plastic cans are handy for holding little odds and ends too. I want to say Super 88 is intended for "cold weather" so it may actually be a better application.

Can't hurt to try one of these tapes, at $5 what do you have to lose? It's not like you won't use it elsewhere.
