The year range of the 240 low-friction North American engines (90-93) you mention are 13 mm thick rods (versus 9 mm) (width or depth?) and other improvements in like 1988 or 1989. I'm not certain. Though this information is easily found through internet search.
With some research, you'll find engines with a round tooth timing belt will come with engine oil squirters. Like 93 and later. Yet in engines a little earlier than that may allow you the ability to drill, tap, and install squirters inside inside the engine block as part of engine rebuild. With care and normal use squirters are an assurance, yet not needed.
As for stronger ... you'll need to define what you want by stronger. A factory 240 from 1986 onward produces a whopping 115-130 horsepower and about the same number in ft-lbs torque.
For a model year 240, 1986 and after, the sedan and wagon models use the same engine and transmission and engine control options. The 240 wagon is some 400 or 600 pounds heavier. So, the rear springs are a larger wire diameter.
