Thanks guys. My car has been at a panel shop for a few years while I have been working out of the country. They had cause to strip the dash to install a new dash-pad and after stripping everything today I am of the opinion that there is a spring missing behind the steering wheel. I am going to phone Eric hamlet and ask if he has an exploded view of the assembly so that I can confirm my suspicions.
