Patching old speaker holes 444-544

Greetings,

The previous owners cut holes in the front cockpit side panels and rear seat shelf for speakers. They sounded good but looked like total crap. I'm definitely going to repair the back pair...but wondered what the thinking is as far as keeping the front holes, so that a newer radio could be fitted at some point (that's assuming I won't get lucky enough to find an original one that works). Might mount a newer radio in the trunk, so I wouldn't ruin the dash (large hole must be patched from a Kenwood radio...ugly).
