There are a number of people on the internet who have repainted cars with Rustoleum using a roller. Check out http://rolledon.forummotion.com/ for some details. I'm going to try that this year on one of my cars and will report the results.

The 91 240 in my fleet has deteriorated paint on the roof, hood and trunk as you describe so it seems that we are reaching the end of life for the original paint on these vehicles unless they were garaged for a significant portion of their lives.
