I've had my '94 940 Turbo for just over a year now. I love this car except for one thing (which I found out about after around 400 miles of driving it a year ago):
I can be driving on the highway or an off road, happy as can be. Then, when I accelerate, it craps out. Actually loses power. As long as I drive at a steady rate, after that, it's fine. If I shut the car off for 5 seconds and restart, the problem's gone and I'm off to the races for the next 100-2000(yes...two thousand)miles.
We just finished doing 2200 miles in a 2 week span. NYC to NJ Shore to Vermont to Ohio and back to NYC. This problem occurred twice during this time. My wife drove it to Long Island today and the problem occurred once.
As I said: this has been happening pretty much since the gitgo. Here's what I've done, so far, to fix it:
1) New gas filter (twice...I thought the problem was fixed the first time and then let the tank go almost to empty. After filling up the problem came back. So I got another filter, thinking I'd stirred up some sediment. Problem came up again).
2) New fuel pump relay.
3) New fuel pump.
4) The clamps on the air filter housing are gone. I replaced the air filter and duct taped the unit shut.
I've had these suggestions:
1) Mass airflow sensor
2) Fuel tank filter
3) Alternator
My wife thinks it happens when we fill up at a service station. I'm not so sure and, even if so, it just doesn't happen every time. At all. The ride from VT to Ohio and back to NYC was a LOOOOONG way with lots of stops for gas. We only had one incident at the beginning (after filling up) and that was it.
One mechanic told me, "What's the big deal? Stop the car and start up again and you're golden. Save yourself some money". But I'd like to fix this if I can.
Thanks in advance for reading my novel and replying (if you choose to).
