Fuel Sending Unit Questions 700

I got the sending unit out, and, of course, the pumps do not match.

The pump on my unit was so small compared to the Bosch unit that I bought that I thought it was something else entirely and I tried to open up the sender tube that is supposedly spring loaded, hoping to find something that matched my new part inside.

After figuring out that I would not be able to open the slider I examined the pump and realized that all the ins and outs matched. It was just very short compared to the new unit.

After a lot of cleanup I removed the old pump and installed the new one.

One of the wire connectors is breaking loose. Can I simply cut it off and crimp on a new one from AutoZone? I suppose I could solder the wire directly to the screw post like Art suggested, but that is not how it was installed, so I am loath to do this.

I ended up with some leftover parts. The tiny nut that IPD sells does not seem to have a home on my unit. Nor does the short hose or clamp. What gives, here?

The spring-loaded sender tube does not feel like it has very much spring, if any at all, to the arm. And something rolls around freely inside it. Great. Any Bosch LH2.4 experts here?

The hose on my sender is much longer. It is like 8" whereas the IPD one is like 3", and the old hose is too long for the new pump. Of course, the new hose is far too short to replace this long hose, so I am left wondering whether something other than the old sock filter is at the bottom of my tank...

Also, what is the white, plastic thing where the sock should be on the old filter?

So - wire connections, sock position, leftover clamp, nut and hose, and the spring return on the sender. Anyone???
