check engine light: EGR code 900 1994

the car keeps sending an EGR code. this happened a few years ago. the cause was a hole in the muffler. I put a new exhaust on it and I stopped getting the code. (in fact, both of the mufflers have been replaced in the past year).

Now the light is back on but the exhaust system appears to be fine. how would I go about checking other possible causes?
