Light scratch on Crank cover. Am I doomed to replace it?

Hi vacuumhead,

I can't see your picture. My cover plate had very light scratch from previous ownership, it was about 3/32" long by 1/32" deep near the top. Like Mikemilano mentioned, I was able to remove it with 3M scotch bright. The surface is not perfectly flat/round at this point but I figured it will be ok since the seal has several tiny bumps/grooves that press against the opening surface.

It was easier for me to remove the front cover than putting it back in. Easier if the bottom wiring harness was out of the way... I recommend that you wrap your crankshaft with a high density plastic bag (polyethylene) so that you don't scratch the shaft or the cover plate.

Hello folks, please correct me if I am wrong. :D

Good luck!
