We have used and at least 1 new 12 volt head light switch.
You can bypass the rheostat by connecting the dash light wire at the head light switch to the running light pole using a piggy back connector. You can't adjust the brightness, but at least you have dash lights.
You can buy a piggy back connector for the blade style connector that has 1 female socket and 2 male blades.
