transmission problems

ok i know i have many post about transmission problems and what not.but here it is. I got this transmission from a 1993 volvo 940 (aw71) with unknown mileage on it. The trans fluid was red so i figured in good condition. Well I drop the Transmission and forgot to disconnect the kick-down cable, so it got pulled out of the valve body. I took off the pan and found no damage was done to the kick-down cable spool. I pulled the valve body and did the accumulator mod. I cut the shims to the length of the springs, but the 2nd piston i changed on from a flay piston to the one with the spring on top of it, (it come from the other aw71 that was in my car) i changed over everything. I did cut the shim 1/8 shorter then the spring on the 2nd pistons. I have put everything back in now and have the 940 transmission in my car now. I have adjusted and adjusted the kick-down cable and i cannot get it to shift into 3rd on its on. I have to let off the pedal for a few seconds and get back on it. if you drop the gear shift in to second then but in to drive it shifts in to 3rd like nothing. I also can't get it to shift into OD. when i am driving at 50+mph. I do not have the OD solenoid. I girded it down so I could get OD on the other AW71 that was in my car, so i just swaped it over. The transmission level is on the spot. I have checked it by driving for 30mins then going through all the gears then leaving it in D to check the dipstick. The level is between the little min and max marks. It feels like maybe theres a problem with the valve body maybe?? I don't know what else to do. I have thought about switching the valve body from my other aw71 into the 940 aw71. Could it be the governor causing this too? Someone please help me out on this. When I instilled the tq I didnt fill it back up with transmission fluid. I figure once I put transmission fluid in the transmission it fill the tq back up. Most of the transmission fluid was dumped out of it.
