That part is called the lower window channel. What happened to yours is not an isolated case but on 240's hasn't been much of an issue. Be glad they got smart and started to galvanize the metal. On 140's it was common to have to repair (replace) rotted channels--a bit of a scary operation involving hammering the channel over a tight fitting "gasket" onto the glass. -- Dave
