Hello all! Car is a 1988 V6 780, LH 2.2 and EZK 115K.
In another thread, I detailed a no start condition that I had after mixing up the wires during an ignition coil replacement.
After much diagnosis and head scratching with a multimeter, the following were found to be fried and were duly replaced-
1. Ignition power stage (new BOSCH)
2. Ignition Coil (New Intermotor)
3. Ignition Control Unit (Used but good EZK 115K)
4. Crank Position Sensor (New Intermotor)
With that done, the car starts and runs!
The bad news is that it now runs terribly. It hunts at idle all the way from 1500 to 300 rpm, and if I try to rev it, it misses like crazy.
The strange part is that during diagnosis I noticed if I unplug the MAF and open the throttle, the car will stall. Car does not run any better with MAF unplugged. When it stalls, the IAC is still activated which doesn't seem right to me (I can put my hand on it and feel it vibrating, as well as hear it running). Just out of curiosity, I unplugged the IAC, started the car again, and lo and behold, the car will rev up perfectly well, but will sputter upon throttle closure and of course won't idle at all.
I guess my question is, what on earth could cause the IAC to make a difference in how the engine revs? Am I even looking in the right spot?
I'm off to try some more of the tests in the FAQ, but any input would be appreciated.
