i should mention:
this actually did not begin after the overheating. this didn't even begin with this engine. i put this engine in last summer but these symptoms have been occurring since i got the car with the original engine. i know it's naive to rule out the possibility that BOTH engines had head gasket problems, but thought i'd note it.
