That does sound like a good plan. I never think of that "keep it in the trunk" approach because caring for 8 of them, I never know which trunk to store the spares in -- so they are on shelves in the garage.

Once I had a water pump episode 800 miles from home, but it wasn't really the pump that conked out, just the paper gasket sprung a leak. A local foreign car parts retailer offered to pull the gasket kit out of new pump, and later I mailed them a replacement gasket kit.
