Hi:
I am trying to learn how the 780 windshield and rear window are installed. I have a 1990 780 that needs the rear window replaced. It is out now, but the trim remains with safety glass bits (not laminated).
The windshield has a passenger side lower portion crack and I will probably replace it. The windshield also has about 4 rust areas above the black trim (maybe 2-3 inches in length each and 1 inch in width above the black rubber trim) that I have sanded with a dremel to get a better look at today. The rust has gone through the metal so there is a void between the top of the roof, what looks like metal at the edge of the windshield and the lower portion which I assume is the inside roof metal. I can send pics if it would help via email. I want to close off these open sections securely and further rustproof, prime and paint. Sounds like POR-15 is popular, but not really for repainting with colour and clearcoat because it sounds very hard to sand as a base. Not sure what to use to fill the open void.
I would like to clean up the back glass trim and bits and I want to see how complex this all is to see what I can do and what I need to get done either by a glass place that will come to my home garage, or if it is taken in (likely would need a tow). I have another back window from a 1988 780 donor car and windshield. Windshields sound less expensive at about $400 installed new, but rear windows (in Canada) harder to come by.
How does all of this fit together and come apart?
Thanks, would appreciate pics if you have tackled this front or back on your own. Much appreciated if I can learn from your experience.
