740 window fix

For years, my rear window was stuck in the down position on my 1987 GLE.

The window motor would come on (from the driver seat switch only, not the rear), and the window would vibrate, but something on the inside wasn't catching, and it refused to come up, even with me pulling up the top of the window.

I didn't want to pay the expense to have it fixed, so I at last determined to see what wasn't catching. I saw someone's photos of the door panel off, and figured I'd give it a try myself.

I got the door panel off, and used silicone spray on the guides. The window still didn't rise. I didn't know part what was keeping it down. I felt around the blind spots on the inside, but everything seemed connected fine.

I was ready to give up for good. But I tried this: I put my hand on the very bottom of the window, and with my long arm reached over to the driver door switch to press it. I nudged the bottom of the window back and forth (side door to side door direction) and the window moved up a bit. I stopped and tried this again, and it rose all the way to full up position. I was amazed!

Now I'll just leave it be for good, and hope that my other windows don't go on the fritz. The spray may have helped, but it was my nudging that got the window to move. I still don't know exactly what was causing the window to stick.

Here are the photos to give you an idea of the inside parts:
