940 shut off during car wash 900 1992

I just bought a '92 940 sedan with 138k miles. No rust anywhere on the body, but there is an exhaust leak (where the resonator connects to the pipe that goes back to the muffler) and the catalytic converter rattles badly on and off. The power sunroof also won't fully open or fully close and the driver's power window goes up and down but doesn't close properly either. I thought I had managed to get both the sunroof and the window closed, so I took it to the automatic car wash. I drove in and it sprayed the undercarriage and just as the undercarriage wash finished and I was continuing to pull forward the car suddenly shut off. I tried to restart it and it turned over but wouldn't start. I kept trying and nothing. After about 3 minutes and giving it some gas during some of the attempts to start it, it finally started again. I continued to pull forward, the car wash started and completed and I drove home without any further issues. (Except that during the rest of the car wash I found out that the window and sunroof were in fact not water-tight). So my question is- why did it shut off after the undercarriage wash? And why wouldn't it restart for a couple of minutes after? Does it have something to do with water getting on or maybe sprayed into the rusty parts of the exhaust?
