242 in-tank fuel pump

Both of your tests are valid ones, but still may not tell you if the in tank pump is faulty. I had this problem on my 84 242.
I finally did a definitive test. I pulled the pump assy. from the tank and put it in a bucket of water, activated the pump with a 12 source and got virtually no flow. You could try this too. It can be messy (put a hose on the outlet and direct away, best done outdoors).
I like to test things out before replacing parts, but the all symptoms point to bad in tank pump.
