Temp gauge malfunction

You don't mention what year or series your car is but the problem you speak of is common in the 240's beginning about 1985 (not sure of when the circuitry was changed).

There is a component in the instrument cluster called temperature compensation board that is troublesome and luckily not needed. You can simply remove it and install a jumper wire in its place and you should be good to go with an accurate gauge.

Remove the instrument cluster and perform the simple procedure shown in the picture:
