My T5 Swap in a word...uneventful.
Used VPD plate, fork, TO Brng and fork pins. His clutch disc appears to be a Turbo Coupe 8.5 inch cut down in a lathe to 8.25...but fits the Sachs PP perfectly. I used T5 # 238 from the 94 V6, with a new input shaft from a V8 and a cut down bearing retainer. You have to remove .500 from the retainer or it prevents full insertion of the trans...running into the clutch disc spline assy.
My 1970 142 required me to move the trans crossmember back 1.5 inches...some tab extensions of 3/16 flat bar accomplished it...using existing mtg. holes.
New hole in tunnel comes out about three inches forward of the seats...but the stock pro 5.0 shifter fits very well, with no clearance issues on seat or your knee.
The 3.35 1st and .73 5th with a 4.10 rear end and 195/60/15 tires is almost perfect IMO. Third gear is perfect match for my powerband and makes fourth anticlimactic. The .73 fifth cruises 70 at 3100 rpm.
left with one issue...the tight tunnel leaves no room for a speedo cable...unless they make one with a right angle drive...going to try to fit a digital sender and switch to a digital speedo...I have the Rally Instrument Cluster.
Totally pleased with this mod...words of warning...it took 3 months to squeeze all the parts out of JP...plan in advance!
