Dear Fellow Brickboarders,
Hope you're well. Has anyone seen and/or installed a 940 engine pipe, which did not have - at the end closest to the catalytic converter - a triangular steel fitting retained by a flared pipe end? The engine pipe's triangular steel fitting would be secured to a similar fitting on the converter, by three bolts. Before these bolts were tightened, a sealing ring would be seated into the flared ends of the engine pipe and the converter. When the bolts were tightened, a gas-tight seal would be formed.
I have a 940 engine pipe, supposedly made by ANSA about a decade ago. It bears Volvo Part No. 6842565. On this engine pipe, the triangular steel fitting is welded into place. The end of the engine pipe is not flared. The pipe's end is flush with the welded triangular steel plate. Thus, there's no place for a sealing ring to seat itself.
Has anyone seen or installed an engine pipe on a 940, which does not have a flared end, and a triangular steel fitting, that can turn freely? If so, that would suggest that this ANSA pipe can be installed properly. If not, that would suggest this pipe may have been modified.
Thanks for your help.
Yours faithfully,
Spook
