This came up in someone else's thread, so I thought I would move the discussion to its own thread. I've had some nagging questions about my oil separator (the box that goes on the side of the engine block to vent crackcase gasses). I replaced it a few years ago (1-2 years ago) because it was leaking oil at the rubber grommet. The car got a new grommet, separator, and the stubby 1.5 inch hose that goes between.
Since then, I've noticed a lot of oil collecting around my oil filler cap. Also, there's oil collecting around the places where hoses connect to the intake hose.
The flame trap is clean. THere are probably some vacuum hoses that are due to be replaced. And I have yet to replace the O-ring at the base of the vacuum hose tree. I plan to do that this weekend when I replace the Timing Belt.
Since I'm going to be elbow deep in the engine bay, is there anything I should check in relation to the oil separator or the PCV system? Is there an actual PCV valve to inspect? Should I be looking for a kinked hose at some really important place?
Thanks!
