the answer is ....the turbo

Hi Kyle,

I agree with you totally about a failed turbo. They would not make something to where if it failed it would stop the engine completely. That would be unsafe as having a vacuum controlled heater system, that fails toward being cold all the time and you live Montana.

I think he is looking at power supply problems from both battery connections and inbound from there. A junction connection at the starter, grounds or junctions going into the cars wiring harness and fuse panel.
The big animal in the room may be time and its good friend corrosion!

The fuses themselves are big question marks on the 240’s. I am not familiar with the 700's but I do not think the 700's fell too far from the tree.

IMHO, they did not get far enough down the road in the electrical department. Using a mixture of different vendors, in different countries and then living with some of the engineers lying to each other about what their components could do for the price, in order to get their business.

All were attempts to make Volvos appear more modern and it is unfortunate the car picked up more than its fair share of headaches with a new design to market pressures.

I see these cars at the bone yards and just shake my head at how the stuff is crammed into the console. Special trim pieces helps increase the horror.

It has occurred to me over the years that the more you pay for a car, the more they want to play hide and seek with the special fasteners.

Refinement should be the new way to build cars. The 240’s, Camry and other makes considered longer-term cars are an attempt.

Even though it may be boring for young designers, they really need to learn the IN is before they can get way OUT there, at the expense of the everyday consumers whom are the backbone of large automakers.

If the problem with his car is electrical then what in the world do you think is going to happen with all the features in the dashes of new cars.

A computer brain/mechanic, how much will the shop rate be for that person?

Just when electric cars may have fewer parts for the one person, we will create another field for repair jobs. All sounds feasible to me!

Those new cars or as they become used, are not in my game plan with this kind of gadget thinking. Resale value will be in the dumpster but the car may have a good power train!

Ride and talk or ride and no talk are the monthly payment questions of the future.

I would suggect he post on the 700 block to get more responses from those that have been there and done that.
Phil
