Rust at Top of Windshield-Tips?

My 740 has some rust spots inside the recess beneath the trim strip on top of the windshield, probably a result of careless windshield replacement. Any tips on removing rust and re-rustproofing? I figure a rotary wire brush will remove much of it, POR-15 will proof it, but I am concerned about the area under the urethane windshield adhesive.
