Leaking rack- long distance trip imperative; what to do?

Would seem worth a try to me. I have had no PS on my 240, and my wife was able to drive it. On an interstate one would not even notice. Must be always aware though when going slow that extra effort will be needed so one must plan ahead then.
Doubtful seals would fail completely, so plan of adding fluid would be good, greatest danger would be driving on the interstate and not realizing the fluid was gone and overheating the pump.
