More on my overdrive (M46) issues 200 1984

So, after a bit more driving and realizing the behavior of my overdrive in my turbo wagon, I can offer up a bit more information...

The overdrive is coming on by itself, seemingly from start.. I start out in 1st gear, and under hard accelleration, I can feel it disengage. Furthermore, yesterday, in 3rd gear, I'd step on the gas and the rpm would rise, but no accelleration at all.. like having a bad clutch.. then the overdrive would kick in or out (couldn't really tell which) and I'd be accellerating again. That happened only a couple times.

I pulled the shifter boot, and all wiring looks ok. I pulled the fuse. I pulled the wire off the overdrive solenoid. So, I think I pretty much ruled out any possibility of an electrical issue.

Stuck solenoid maybe? Stuck valve? Maybe some manner of transmission flush? Just a shot overdrive?

If the shot overdrive, can it fail in such a way that the car simply won't go? Seems that way based on that 3rd gear behavior.... Is it possible to replace the overdrive without pulling the transmission? I do have access to spare trannsmissions, but.. man.... maybe come spring.

Ah well... Happy Blue Moon New Year!

(Next new years eve blue moon isn't until 2028)
