Bolts / nuts rusting solid - can you prevent it?

One thing that contributes to rusting is having the threads too CLEAN.
On things that are particularly bad (and not particularly HOT) I put a little grease on the threads.
This includes the lower A-frame pivot bolt on 122s, 140 and 164 cars, which can be real boogers!
(Not just the threads but the shank of the bolt also.)
