ignition switch 700

I'm trying to replace the ignition switch on my 1990 volvo 740. After removing the trim panel below the steering column, I can see the "switch" but there is no space to remove the screws that secure the switch to the steering column.I would appreciate if someone can tell me how to go about removing the switch.Thanks.
