Will has given you good advice on washing the engine at home if the wiring harness is crumbling. (BTW, why haven't you rewired it?)I use Gunk Engine Brite and wet the engine after it has run for a bit to warm up, then I take my $30.00 electric power washer from Lowes and clean the sucker off, top and underneath. Finish up with a little WD-40 in the intake to keep it shiney, and a little onthe distributor cap, just in case. I've never had an engine to not start after washing. I would give you a pic to look at but the gallery is acting up.
Regards,
