May this find You well. There are usually two sources for cruise control problems: (a) the speedometer and (b) the vacuum supply, which keeps the cruise control engaged.

As to (a), does the speedometer needle move erratically? That is, does it change position, when you have not changed the pressure on the accelerator? If so, this could indicate a failure inside the speedometer, or in the instrument's connection to the flexible circuit card, through which power and signals travel to the instruments.

As to (b) inspect the black rubber "servo-motor" mounted just behind the throttle spool, which is atop and on the driver side of the intake manifold. Also inspect the black plastic hose, that goes to the servo-motor, especially the rubber elbow.

If there is a crack in the "servo-motor", the hose or the elbow, vacuum - that keeps the cruise engaged - will "bleed-off", causing the cruise to disengage. When you accelerate, that restores some of the lost vacuum. As it bleeds-off through the crack or hole, the cruise control disengages.

The vacuum is supplied by a motor, affixed to the wall of the driver-side strut tower. This motor is black plastic. I do not recall seeing a post, over the past few years, reporting a failure in this motor. Failures in the hose, elbow, or the servo-motor have been reported.
